Fox Township Volunteer Fire Department responded to a residential building fire Jan. 29 in Fox Township.
Firefighters were dispatched at 10:39 p.m. Jan. 29 to 7185 Norco Road NE, where first-arriving units found a large pole-type building fully involved in fire. Homeowners reported the fire after being alerted to a power outage.
Firefighters initially attacked the fire using a handline. Once a water supply was established, crews worked to extinguish the main body of the fire using several handlines.
The building collapsed and was a total loss. Fire damage was confined to the structure where the fire originated, and several nearby structures were protected and not damaged.
It took firefighters approximately one hour to bring the fire under control. Crews then remained on scene for about two additional hours to gain access to the structure and extinguish hot spots.
No civilians, animals or firefighters were injured. No damage estimates were available, and the building was insured.
The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation by the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Fox Township firefighters were assisted at the scene by Carrollton Village, Augusta Township, Bergholz and Hanover Township fire departments. Baker’s Towing also assisted at the scene.
“We wish to thank our mutual aid partners for their quick response and assistance in bringing the fire under control,” said Fire Chief Zeb Casper of the Fox Township Volunteer Fire Department.
