EOG Resources Inc. of Malvern hosted its second Toys for Tots gift event in Malvern Dec. 3, serving 209 families and 452 children in Carroll County at the old Colfor building on Alliance Road.
This year marks the 12th annual collaboration between Toys for Tots and companies including Williams, Expand Energy, Gulfport Energy, Infinity Natural Resources, EOG Resources, Ascent Resources and Pin Oak Energy.
Mike Chadsey, director of external affairs for the Ohio Oil & Gas Association and deputy coordinator for Toys for Tots, said this year’s effort includes roughly $75,000 worth of toys, most of which were purchased at the New Philadelphia Walmart. While some items were held back to restock future county events, the majority were distributed at the week’s early stops.
Chadsey said the program allows families to select three toys per child, with volunteers helping shoppers choose items, carry them outside and even wrap gifts at a wrapping station. Families served include those connected to local schools, Jobs and Family Services, Head Start programs and adoptive or foster households. He noted that EOG Resources contributed more than half of the total toy funding this year, with donations coming from both the company and its employees.
EOG brought in about 50 volunteers, including workers and their families.
“A lot of us live locally, and we’re very community and family driven. This gives us a great chance to give back,” said Lucas Shipper with EOG Resources. “With our expanded footprint in the area, we’re also excited to host a Toys for Tots event in Noble County as well.”
“EOG’s employees live locally and support local families,” said Chadsey. “They understand what we’re trying to do here, the big line we use is, ‘a big checkbook, but even bigger hearts.’”
As the multi-county effort winds down, the final Toy Distribution Day is set for Friday, Dec. 12, in Columbiana County. The event is hosted by Pin Oak Energy Partners and will be held at St. Jude, 180 Seventh St., Columbiana.
