The Wayne County Civil War Round Table will host a Presidents Day program Monday, Feb. 16 at 1 p.m. at the schoolhouse at the Wayne County Historical Society, 546 E. Bowman St., Wooster.

The program is free to attend and will feature historian Benjamin Frayser portraying President James A. Garfield. Frayser’s presentation, “James Garfield and Being a Martyred President,” examines Garfield’s life, legacy and impact on the nation beyond his assassination.

Garfield is best known as the second assassinated president of the United States, but his story extends beyond the circumstances of his death. Even in death Garfield influenced lasting change in America.

Frayser has been personally inspired by the life and legacy of Garfield and considers him one of the greatest examples of the American Dream. He served as a National Park Service volunteer at the James A. Garfield National Historic Site in Mentor from 2014-17. Frayser has a lifelong interest in history, particularly the American Civil War and its societal impacts, and holds an MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University.
