Celebrity sled hockey game hits Wooster
Local celebrities face Wildcats team Friday at Alice Noble Ice Arena to support adaptive sports
The 12th annual Celebrity Sled Hockey Game will be played Friday, March 13, at Alice Noble Ice Arena in Wooster. The event will begin at 6 p.m. Local celebrities will compete against the Wooster Wildcats sled hockey team at the fundraising event that benefits the Wildcats and raises awareness of sports for individuals with disabilities.
The event will also feature a silent auction, 50/50 raffle and the opportunity to try sled hockey for $2 per person. The silent auction is currently live online and can be accessed at https://bit.ly/CelebritySledHockey26. Admission is $5 and payable at the door.
This year’s celebrities include Meredith Craig from the Ohio House of Representatives, Assistant Chief Scott Rotolo from the Wooster Police Department, Ben Maibach from Wooster Brush, Logan Stutzman from Weaver Custom Homes, Ashley Hershberger from the United Way of Wayne and Holmes Counties, Randy Pollock from Westfield Insurance, Kyle Adams from Stifel, Gunnar Stidham from Wooster Hydrostatics, Brandon Smith and Jarred Smith from NOOMA, and Aaron Miedel and Dr. Anson Miedel from Wooster Eye Center. The celebrities will be coached by Greg Long from Long, Cook and Samsa.
Just as in ice hockey, sled hockey is played with six players, including a goalie. Players propel themselves on their sled, supported by a blade and by the use of spikes on the ends of two 30-inch-long sticks, enabling a player to push themselves as well as shoot and pass.
“Competing in the Adaptive Sports Ohio Celebrity Sled Hockey game was an unforgettable experience," said Ashley Hershberger, a 2025 and 2026 celebrity participant. "The athletes around me showcased their incredible abilities — moving with strength, control and grace that made it all look so effortless. The joy and intensity they brought to the game was nothing short of amazing."
“It has been a privilege to provide opportunities for athletes with physical disabilities in Wooster and throughout Ohio," said Lisa Followay, president and CEO of Adaptive Sports Ohio. "We are extremely grateful for the support of the Wooster community. The Wildcats Sled Hockey Program continues to thrive thanks in part to our local and state partners’ generosity and commitment to providing people with disabilities a chance to play."
Adaptive Sports Ohio thanks the sponsors of the event. Weaver Custom Homes is the presenting champion. Gold champions include The Wooster Brush Co., Westfield Insurance, Greater Wayne Community Federal Credit Union, Wooster Glass Co., PRC-Saltillo and Ashton Solutions.
Adaptive Sports Ohio offers opportunities to make sports more accessible to those with physical disabilities, including 15 interscholastic wheelchair basketball teams, local and travel community team opportunities for youth and adults, Everyone Plays kits and Dream Camp, a summer overnight camp.
