As part of the ceremony, the main stage in the Performing Arts Center was named in Ciulla’s honor. District officials said facility naming is determined through a committee process to ensure thoughtful recognition of individuals who have made lasting contributions.

Jason Locher, a colleague and former student, reflected on Ciulla’s impact, saying, “Gary didn’t just build a great band program – he built a family. He made every student feel valued and connected.”

Nick Ciulla, his eldest son, spoke on behalf of the family, saying, “My dad took immense pride in his students and everything they achieved. I’m proud to carry on his legacy through my own success in music.”

Ciulla received numerous honors throughout his career, including the Medina City Schools Distinguished Service Award and recognition from the Ohio Senate and House of Representatives. His legacy lives on through the thousands of students he inspired, many of whom have become musicians and educators.

The Ciulla family expressed gratitude for the community’s support and the opportunity to celebrate his life. His impact continues to be felt in Medina’s music program.
