The Mount Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating two fatal traffic crashes in Knox County recently.
The first crash occurred on Friday, June 27, at 10:06 p.m. on State Route 3 north of Mount Vernon.
Joseph Morr, 30 of Mansfield, was operating a 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer southwest on State Route 3. Morr drove off the left side of the roadway and struck a ditch, then a tree, overturned and struck a building.
Morr was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Knox County Sheriff's Office and the Monroe Township Fire Department. The crash remains under investigation.
The second occurred on Sunday, June 29, at 12:25 p.m. on State Route 95 north of Fredericktown.
Alicia Johnson, 70, of Plymouth, was operating a 2020 Vespa GTS300 motorcycle southwest on State Route 95. Johnson failed to negotiate a curve, drove off the right side of the roadway, and overturned. Bridgette Murray, 52 of Mansfield, was a passenger on the Vespa.
Both riders were transported to Ohio Health in Mansfield where Murray succumbed to her injuries. Johnson sustained serious injuries. Murray was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Knox County Sheriff's Office, Fredericktown Police Department and Fredericktown Fire/EMS. The crash remains under investigation.
