The Knox County Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with the Leadership Knox Class of 2025, and the Junior Fair Board, announced plans to renovate one of the restroom facilities at the Knox County Fairgrounds. The facility is located at 601 Fairgrounds Road, Mount Vernon, and will be renovated ahead of the 2025 fair season in July.
The renovation project aims to enhance the experience of fairgoers and fair participants from 4-H, FFA, Grange, Scouts and Cloverbuds, who make extensive use of the facilities during the annual fair.
“The Knox County Fair is more than appealing grandstand events, iconic fair food, and distinctive rides. The junior fair portion showcases the hard work of over 1,400 4-H members, over 100 adult volunteers, and over a million dollars of support from local businesses,” said Christine Keaton, project chair for the Leadership Knox Class of 2025.
“It is because of that indelible impact on the future of Knox County youth that a subcommittee from Leadership Knox 2025 researched potential project needs. After a multi-month process of meetings and physical visits, it was determined that the 4-H bathroom facility in the heart of the junior fair buildings would be refurbished for the 2025 Knox County Fair.”
Renovation plans include a comprehensive list of improvements:
– Interior and exterior painting;
– Replacement of mirrors in the restrooms;
– Removal of exposed nails for safety;
– Inspection and replacement of exterior boards;
– Power washing of all surfaces and flooring;
– Thorough cleaning of fixtures and showers;– Sanding of necessary areas;
– Replacement of sheet metal as needed; and
– General cleaning and updates throughout the building.
In addition, a new vinyl welcome sign will be installed to greet fairgoers and add a vibrant finishing touch to the project.
The Leadership Knox Class of 2025 is committed to community service and development, and this project reflects their dedication to creating a positive impact across Knox County.
