Introducing Coffee Cup – A live stage conversation series
Community storytelling series offered at the Woodward Opera House
The historic Woodward Opera House is proud to introduce Coffee Cup, a new live stage experience inspired by one of Knox County’s most beloved traditions of conversation and community storytelling.
Created by longtime arts educators and community leaders Joe and Marty Bell, Coffee Cup brings the spirit of local connection to the stage in a relaxed, talk-show-style format.
Blending the feel of a casual coffeehouse conversation with the energy of a live show, the evening invites audiences to sit back, listen, laugh, and reflect as local voices share stories that have shaped the fabric of the community.
Each program will feature guests that many in the community already know from business owners and educators to artists, leaders, and neighbors, while uncovering new and meaningful aspects of their lives through engaging, conversational interviews.
The programs will also include recurring segments such as the lighthearted “Coffee Cup Quiz” and the community-focused “Scoop and Buzz,” highlighting local happenings and events.
Coffee Cup will be held June 9, Aug. 11, Oct. 6 and Dec. 8, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Woodward Opera House. Admission is free, but donations are welcome. Each event will run approximately 75 minutes.
“Coffee Cup is about bringing people together,” said Joe Bell. “We all see familiar faces around town, but we don’t always know their stories. This creates a space to slow down, listen, laugh, and connect in a genuine way.”
Marty Bell added, “There’s something special about simply sitting down, sharing a story, and listening. Coffee Cup creates a space where people feel seen, heard, and connected, and that’s something our community truly values.”
Coffee Cup is designed to be more than just a show; it’s a shared community experience. By highlighting the people and perspectives that shape the region, the series celebrates what makes Mount Vernon unique while strengthening the connections that bring it together.
