Fredericktown boys basketball stays unbeaten with dominant KMAC wins

Freddies roll past Cardington-Lincoln and East Knox; bowling teams split and wrestlers compete at Don Wasserbeck Classic

The Fredericktown boys’ basketball train just keeps rolling through the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference.

The Freddies exploded for 46 points in the first quarter on Jan. 13, cruising to a 79-37 victory over host Cardington-Lincoln. FHS led 46-6 after one period in the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference win.

Gavin Toombs led the offensive onslaught for the Freddies, scoring 19 points, pulling down nine rebounds and recording two steals. Zane Luckmeier added 15 points, 10 rebounds and two steals, while Blake Sipes had 14 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals. Carson Rinehart had 10 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals; and Graham Overholt had 10 points, three rebounds and two assists.

The Freddies followed that up with a 73-42 victory over host East Knox on Jan. 16.

Fredericktown slowly expanded its lead throughout the game, finishing it off with a 19-2 advantage in the fourth quarter.

Luckmeier led the Freddies with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Rinehart added 18 points, seven rebounds and four steals, while Sipes had 14 points and Toombs had 13 points and three steals.

Bowling

The Fredericktown bowling teams split their match with visiting Cardington on Jan. 20.

The boys’ team knocked off the Pirate, 1,687-1,592. Wyatt Payne led the Freddies with a 300 series (136-165). Mason Gearheart shot 281 (153-128), while Jordan Moore fired a 274 (145-129).

The girls fell to the Pirates, 1,672-1,539. Holly Hogle led the Freddies with a 281 series (124-157). Raegan Blanchard followed with a 268 (136-132), while Kota Curtis shot 247 (106-141) and Maddie Bartlett 244 (127-117).

Wrestling

The Fredericktown boys’ wrestling team finished 15th in the North Union Don Wasserbeck Classic on Jan. 17.

The Freddies were led by freshman Owen Garver, who finished fifth at 144 pounds. Garver lost his first match via pin, but bounced back to pin his next two opponents to finish fifth.

Clayton Walters (113 pounds) and Domenic Wolpe (285) both won one match during the tournament, while Jayce Beeman (150) also participated.
