Bulldog track teams dominate at Danville; girls relay sets another record

The East Knox baseball team remains undefeated in Knox Morrow Athletic Conference play after two wins this week.

The Bulldogs made it a clean sweep of Cardington, beating the Pirates 11-5 on April 8.

Jaxon Lester smacked a first-inning grand slam to lead the Bulldogs. Caden Ridenour added a double and two singles, while Colton Armstrong and Zayne Grennell each had a double and a single. Garrett Wesney cracked two singles, and Caleb Armstrong, Gavin Kidwell and Dakota Cooper each had one single.

Colton Armstrong started on the hill for EK, striking out nine in 5.2 innings of work. Grennell finished up, fanning two.

East Knox’s rally on April 9 came up a bit short as the Bulldogs fell 8-7 to Utica.

Lester belted a triple and a single to pace EK. Ridenour added a double and a single, while Colton Armstrong and Wesney each had two singles. Caleb Armstrong, Jesse Dudgeon and Kidwell all singled.

The Bulldogs used a four-man committee on the mound. Ridenour fanned three in one inning of work, Wesney fanned two in two innings, Dudgeon struck out one in his two innings and Grennell fanned four in the final two frames.

Four East Knox pitchers tossed a combined two-hitter in lead the team to a 6-0 win over Tree of Life on April 11.

Caleb Armstrong struck out two in one inning; Wesney fanned four in three innings; Grennell struck out three and Kidwell also fanned three.

Lester and Grennell each had two singles to pace East Knox offensively. Cooper and Ridenour both had one hit.

East Knox then drubbed Fredericktown, 14-3, in just five innings on April 14.

Caleb Armstrong smacked a triple and a single, driving in three runners, to lead the Bulldogs (9-2 overall, 5-0 KMAC). Jax Lester and Cooper each had a double and a single, while Grennell had two singles and Wesney doubled. Colton Armstrong, Ridenour and Dudgeon all singled.

Caleb Armstrong went the distance on the mound, striking out two while allowing just three hits.

Softball

East Knox picked up its first win of the season on April 11, beating Zanesville, 9-6.

The Bulldogs rapped out 12 hits and used a five-run second inning en route to the victory. Kenlie Moore smacked two doubles and drove in two to lead EK. Mackenzie Wilson and Bailey Maidel each stroked three singles, while Maddison Rambo had two hits. Rhyley Lilley doubled in two runs and Lydia Hill had a single.

Hill started for EK, striking out seven in three innings of work. Rambo finished up, fanning three.

A 10-run third inning proved costly for East Knox in the second game, as River View beat the Bulldogs 12-1.

Rambo smacked a double to lead the Bulldogs, while Moore had a single.

Hill pitched the first 2.2 innings, fanning three. Rambo finished up, striking out two.

Earlier in the week, the Bulldogs dropped a pair of games to Knox Morrow Athletic Conference foe Cardington.

The Pirates exploded for 11 runs in the first inning en route to a 26-2 victory on April 8.

Wilson smacked a triple and a single to pace EK. Moore added two singles.

Rambo threw the first three innings for EK, with Hill finishing up and striking out four.

The Pirates broke open a close game on April 9, scoring six runs in the sixth to win 13-4.

Hill led the Bulldogs with a double and a single. Moore added a double, while Rambo and Wilson each singled once.

Hill went the distance on the mound, striking out four.

Track

The East Knox boys track team dominated the running events while the girls broke another record at the Jim Proper Invitational on Saturday in Danville.

Cason Faucett won two events — the 200-meter dash (23.05) and the 400 (51.05) — while three relay teams won their events. The 4x100 relay team won in 45.74, the 4x200 won in 1:34.49 and the 4x800 won in 9:06.59.

Logan Clark came through with a top finish in the 100 (11.57), Logan Hercenberg won the 300 hurdles (43.20) and Kaiden Clutter won the 1,600 (5:01.64). Hercenberg also placed second in the 110 hurdles (18.51) and Clutter was runner-up in the 3,200 (11:01.94).

The girls’ 4x100 relay team of Ellie Clark, Ava Faucett, Isabelle Bostic and Macie Fawcett set a new school record in winning in 52.00. The 4x200 relay team also won in 1:48.13, while Faucett captured the 100 dash (27.40), Bostic the 400 (1:01.37) and Fawcett the 800 (2:30.44). Clark finished second in the 100 (13.97).
