The Danville softball team used solid pitching and timely
hitting in a pair of victories this week.
A 10-run second inning propelled Danville to an 18-7 victory
over host Utica on April 3.

Ruby Bartok smacked two home runs, driving in six runners,
to lead the Blue Devils. Dalayna Parker added three singles, while Kaylee
Martin had a three-run home run. Addy Bocock and Morgan Hinkens both doubled,
and Taylor Meade, Liz John, Riley Johnston and Kelly Carder all singled.
Bocock started on the hill for Danville, striking out eight
while allowing four hits and four walks in four innings of work. Bartok
finished up, fanning two while allowing two walks and one hit.
The Blue Devils followed that up with a record-setting
performance by Bocock. The senior pitcher struck out 17 batters to help the
Devils beat Mount Gilead, 7-1, on Tuesday.
Bocock allowed just three hits and two walks in the pitching
gem for Danville.
Bartok led the offense with a home run, double, single and
two RBI. Hinkens added a triple and a single, while Bocock, Martin, John,
Parker and Natalie Cozza all singled.
Baseball

Danville jumped out to an early lead, then held on for a 6-4
victory over Granville Christian on April 3.
Nolan Ridgway smacked a double, single and drove in three
runs to lead Danville. Cy Wallace added two singles, while Clayton Vance and
Nelson Troyer both singled.
A four-man pitching committee held GC at bay. Briggs Wallace
threw the first three innings, fanning eight while allowing two hits and one
walk. Bryce Burke fanned one in two innings of work, while Vance fanned one in
1.1 innings. Ridgway got the final two outs, including one by strike out.
On Tuesday, the Blue Devils were stymied by Mount Gilead
pitching and fell, 7-0.
Danville managed just three hits on the day, singles by
Burke, Reuben Troyer and Briggs Wallace.
Troyer started on the hill for the Devils, striking out four
in four innings of work. Wallace fanned two in his two innings, and Burke
canned two in the final frame.
Track
The Danville track team had some solid performances at the
Plymouth Memorial on Saturday.
Kelsey Hackman dominated in three events, winning the
100-meter dash (13.07), 100 hurdles (17.32) and 300 hurdles (49.79). She also
finished third in the long jump, jumping 15-foot-4.
Kenzi Staats finished second in the long jump (15-6.5),
while Brooklynn Carter was third in the shot put (35-2) and fifth in the discus
(110-5). Payton Miller added a fourth-place showing in the 1600 (6:48.88).
The boys were led by Aidan Mickley, who finished second in
the 200 (23.84), third in the 400 (54.89) and fifth in the 100 (12.29). Owen
Gronberg came in second in the shot put (40-10.25) and seventh in the discus
(119-7.5), while Parker Proper was fourth in the 110 hurdles (17.64).
