United Way of Wayne and Holmes Counties in partnership with Community Action Wayne Medina will offer a Bridges out of Poverty workshop on April 25 at the Salvation Army Chapel.

Bridges out of Poverty is a framework for understanding different socioeconomic statuses. This workshop explores poverty, middle class and wealth along with the various facets that define them.

The workshop covers the following:

—Explores the concrete experience of living in generational poverty.

—Builds skill sets for management to help guide employees.

—Creates understanding of poverty and building resources.

—Establishes what is needed to build a sustainable community.

—provides concrete tools and strategies for better understanding poverty in communities.

“Bridges out of Poverty is a self-discovery experience where participants will have the opportunity to look through different lenses to explore the causes of poverty,” Cassie Shaum of Community Action and the Bridges out of Poverty trainer said. “Through storytelling, conversation and table-talk participation, audience members will leave with the motivation and knowledge to assist the under-resourced individuals in their community.”

The workshop will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost to attend is $35 per person, which includes lunch. One may register by calling United Way of Wayne and Holmes Counties at 330-264-5576.

“Bridges out of Poverty is for people of all economic classes and occupations,” Shaum said. “By gathering all people together to discuss poverty, we will begin an important conversation that could change our community for the better.”
