Winter Brain Freeze Challenge starting at Orrville library

Students in fifth grade through eighth grade are invited to join Orrville Public Library’s Winter Brain Freeze Challenge. Read for 20 minutes a day until you reach a total of 300 minutes and you will earn a treat coupon or small prize. The Winter Brain Freeze Challenge will run through Feb. 28.

Pick up a log sheet at the information desk to keep track of how many minutes of reading you complete. Return the log sheet when you complete your minutes of reading and draw for a prize. All winter entries will be eligible for a grand prize.

January Book Club

Pick up a copy of “Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay and a Mother’s Will to Survive” and come to Orrville Public Library’s Book Club meeting to share your thoughts. In this book Stephanie Land shares what it’s like to be a servant worker and how she was able to provide her daughter the very best life.

The Book Club will meet Thursday, Jan. 9. Come to either the 10 a.m. or 6:30 p.m. gathering. No registration is needed.

Crystal observation

Adulting 101

Adults age 19 and over are invited to join the staff of Orrville Public Library for a miniseries of free programs titled Adulting 101. January through May will have a special theme each month to help you navigate basic life skills. Collect a bingo card at each session and use it to play for prizes at the final May meeting.

On Monday, Jan. 27 beginning at 6 p.m., topics include basic financial literacy, how to budget for monthly expenses, and a talk about rent and mortgage payments. Registration will begin Monday, Jan. 13. Register by clicking the event in the library website calendar or by calling the information desk at 330-683-1065.

Winter story times

Sign-ups for Orrville Public Library’s winter story times will begin Monday, Dec. 30. Offered for children age 0-5, the programs give children an introduction to the world of books, finger plays, songs, games and age-appropriate crafts.

Story times will begin the week of Jan. 13 and end the week of Feb. 10. If Orrville City Schools are canceled or delayed due to weather conditions, story time also will be canceled. Registration can be completed on the library website calendar at www.orrville.lib.oh.us or by calling the children’s department at 330-683-1065.
