PRC-Saltillo, a leader in augmentative and alternative communication solutions, announced the retirement of CEO Dave Hershberger, marking the end of an era spanning over four decades. Hershberger will step down Jan. 1 with Sarah Wilds, currently the company’s COO, named as his successor. Hershberger will assist with the transition until March 31, 2025, before assuming the role of chairman of the board.

“Dave was the right leader at the right time,” said Steve Matthew, retiring chairman of the board. “As Sarah steps into the CEO role, we are confident she will continue to advance the company’s mission of empowering individuals without a voice. Her qualifications, leadership and vision position her to guide PRC-Saltillo into its next chapter.”

Hershberger’s journey with PRC-Saltillo began as a high school student and evolved into a distinguished career. While earning an engineering degree from the University of Akron, he worked in manufacturing, research and product development. In 1996 he founded Saltillo Corporation to expand AAC solutions, which merged with PRC in 2007. Appointed CEO in 2017, he spearheaded the 2019 merger of PRC and Saltillo into a unified company.

“I’ve been fortunate to witness how advancements in technology and AAC have changed lives,” Hershberger said. “Sarah is ready to take the helm, and I’m excited to see the company continue to thrive under her leadership.”

Wilds, a 20-year veteran of PRC-Saltillo, brings a blend of clinical expertise and business acumen. She will be the company’s fourth CEO and the first speech-language pathologist to hold the position. Wilds joined PRC-Saltillo in 2005 after a career in clinical AAC practice across the U.S. and New Zealand. She has held leadership roles including VP of product and service development and earned an MBA from Eastern Illinois University.

“PRC-Saltillo’s legacy of innovation inspires me,” Wilds said. “I am committed to building on our tradition of empowering individuals through AAC while embracing rapid technological advancements. I’ve learned from exceptional leaders, and I’m eager to lead this next chapter.”

Founded in 1966, PRC-Saltillo provides speech-generating devices, AAC apps and vocabulary systems for individuals with complex communication needs. Headquartered in Wooster and 100% employee-owned, the company serves clients worldwide.
