West Holmes BOE approves Leppla as football coach

The West Holmes Local Schools Board of Education met Monday, Feb. 19 at Killbuck Elementary for a regular meeting.
The board did the following during the meeting:
—Thanked the Millersburg Police Department for its $500 donation toward student lunch charges at Millersburg Elementary School. The officers donated $50 each for No Shave Month. The money collected was from January and February.
—Thanked Millersburg Auxiliary for its $150 donation toward Millersburg student lunch accounts.
—Approved setting up the 004 Fund for construction including one project purchase order to Fanning Howey, one project purchase order to Adena Construction and a multi-vendor purchase order for miscellaneous expenses that will be done each fiscal year until the project is completed. All purchase orders are not to exceed $40 million.
—Approved the Memorandum of Understanding by and between the University of Akron and the West Holmes Local School District for 2024-25.
—Approved a resolution accepting the rates as set forth by the county auditor.
—Approved a resolution to authorize OSBA to review policies in light of HB 33 legislative changes impacting ODE and the State Board of Education.
—Approved Adena Corporation as the construction manager for the k-5 building.
—Approved a resolution declaring the impracticality of transportation for two students who live in the West Holmes Local School District to Central Christian School in Kidron and to provide the family payment instead of transportation in the amount of $550 per student, equaling $1,100 per year.
—Approved the following hirings: Patti Bower, custodian, effective Feb. 12; Madison Chanay, four-hour cook, effective Feb. 20; and Keaton Leppla, technology, start date to be determined.
—Approved the retirement of Brent Young, mechanic, effective June 30.
—Approved the following resignations: Schuyler Snyder, head girls soccer coach, effective Jan. 8, and Hanse Cromer, head volleyball coach, effective Jan. 18.
—Approved the following supplemental positions: Keaton Leppla, football varsity head coach; Wyatt Mellor, baseball varsity head coach; Geoff Wagers, baseball assistant coach; Darryl Woods, baseball assistant coach; Jordan Stutzman, baseball assistant coach; Kiowa Looney, baseball volunteer coach; Zac Mathie, baseball volunteer coach; Noah Clark, baseball volunteer coach; Steve Frank, softball varsity head coach; Ayla Uhl, softball assistant coach (half); Hannah Barnes, softball assistant coach (half); Mike Molnar, softball assistant coach; Mikayla Ryan, softball assistant coach; Cody Starr, softball volunteer coach; Matt Torgler, track varsity head coach; Mike Ewing, track assistant head coach; Kendra Martin, track assistant coach; Scot Mellor, track assistant coach; DiVaunta Spearman, track assistant coach; Terrell Yoder, track volunteer coach; Cooper Charlton, track middle school head boys coach; Isaac Haver, track middle school head girls coach; Bud Yoder, track middle school assistant boys coach; Clay Miller, track middle school assistant girls coach; Kevin Patterson, boys tennis varsity head coach; and Jason Otto, boys tennis assistant coach.

West Holmes Local Schools thanked Hopewell Presbyterian Church for its donation of hats, gloves, scarves and more to the West Holmes elementary schools.
Nashville Elementary thanked Bigelow Church for its donation of hats, gloves, sweatpants and blankets.
Brian Lash, Killbuck Elementary principal, recognized 5th Grade Conservation Farm Tour essay contest winners Haden Lint (first place) and Ellie Schafer (second), spelling bee winners Cambree Garver (first) and Schafer (second), and Holmes County Spelling Bee co-champion Schafer.
Kyle Maltarich spoke during the public participation portion of the meeting.
The next board meeting is scheduled for March 18 at Nashville Elementary.
