The WCHS Summer Community Band, sponsored by an anonymous donor for the Wayne County Historical Society, is looking forward to another summer of concerts and is always looking to add musicians of any age as rehearsals begin May 22.

Rehearsals will be held in The College of Wooster Scheide Music Center Recital Hall on May 22 at 7 p.m., then continue on Wednesday evenings, concluding on July 10. Anyone who plays a band instrument including percussion is welcome to attend. In past years members have ranged in age from 13-94. The band will play marches, show tunes, patriotic songs and more.

This band is an effort to remind listeners of the bands many communities had a century or so ago. The Wooster Board of Trade Band, with concerts in the old bandstand in front of the now E & H Hardware (formerly Annats, then Everything Rubbermaid), was an example of this type of band.

The band will perform under the baton of Randy Claes of Wooster. The concert will be Thursday, July 11 at 7 p.m. in downtown Wooster. Spectators will need to bring their own chairs to the outside concerts. If the weather does not permit being outside, the band hopes to have a location for an indoor concert. The band also will hold a concert at Sonnenberg Village near Kidron on Monday, July 15.

The WCHS extends its appreciation to Dr. Jeff Gershman and The College of Wooster, as well as to the donors that make the concerts possible.
