Wayne SWCD fish, tree sale underway

Plan now to add shade, beauty, wildlife habitat and food production to your property this spring by placing an order during the annual Wayne Soil and Water Conservation District’s Tree Sale. Offerings range from Scotch pine and swamp white oak to a variety of specialty packs containing a variety of species. The edible landscape, pollinator, wildlife and nut packs can add conservation value to your land.
The tree order deadline is March 13, and pickup is April 17 from noon to 4:30 p.m. at the Wayne County Fairgrounds in Wooster.
If you’re the owner of a pond, spring is the ideal time to add fish to your waters. As the waters warm and the food web shifts into high gear, pond fishes benefit from the abundant food supply. Offerings range from bluegill and bass to the red-eared shell-cracker — great for controlling aquatic snails that can carry disease — and white amur, a species key to controlling algae problems.
The fish order deadline is March 29, and pickup is April 9 from 9-10 a.m. at the Wayne County Fairgrounds, where fish will arrive fresh from Fender’s Fish Hatchery in Coshocton County.
