Upcoming Maker Faire looking for participants

The sixth annual Maker Fair Wayne County will be held in Wooster on July 27, and the faire is calling for participants to sign up until July 1. The free event features technology, arts, crafts, electronics and more.
Tom Hammond is a maker and one of the faire organizers.
“(The faire) is a gathering of fascinating, curious people who enjoy learning and love sharing what they do,” Hammond said. “Maker Faire showcases hands-on projects and ideas that aren’t encountered every day.”
Already the list of makers for the upcoming event includes ham radios, blacksmithing, CO2 powered go karts, woodcarving, glass blowing, green energy, hands-on soldering and kid friendly activities, adapting toys for kids with disabilities, a vortex cannon, weaving, beading, metal casting, animated Christmas lights, leatherworking, 3D printing, origami, flint knapping, and more.
This year’s event will be unique as it is being combined with the annual convention of the A.C. Gilbert Heritage Society. The Society maintains the spirit of the former A.C. Gilbert Company, manufacturer of Erector sets and many other educational items.
“Maker Faire is a great way to make yourself and your organization known to the community and to network with like-minded people,” Hammond said. “Participation is welcome to everyone, from kids to adults, schools and businesses, hobbyists and professionals.”
To participate, fill out an application at waynecounty.makerfaire.com. Participation as a maker, to showcase your creations, is free. There is a minimal fee if you wish to sell items during the faire. The Call for Makers is open now until July 1, 2024.
