Township to schedule hearing on zoning

At the March 16 meeting of the Lawrence Township Board of Trustees, zoning inspector Ron Weekley said he hopes to be ready to hold a public hearing in April on proposed zoning changes. Once a date has been set, the proposed changes can be viewed by the public at the township offices and the Bolivar Post Office.
In other business trustees approved payment of an invoice for cutting edges for the township’s snowplow that were ordered by Chuck McNutt, road superintendent. The cost of the blades, which came from Orion Equipment Innovations, was $3,000.
Trustees plan to recognize McNutt, who will retire at the end of the month, at the March 29 meeting. McNutt has provided 18 years of service to the township.
Trustee Mike Haueter reported on a meeting he attended with the Ohio Township Risk Management Authority regarding cybersecurity and provided the board with recommendations.
Chairman Matt Ritterbeck presented trustees with a sample street lighting petition procedure he said would be the best way to implement new lighting with funds from the taxpayers who desire the lighting. He asked trustees to review the petition and its requirements and to consider it for adoption by the township.
Discussion took place regarding carpeting, new garage doors, parking lot repairs and the compost site with no action taken.
Trustees voted to approve receiving the Joint Solid Waste Management 2024 Yard Waste Host Site Block Grant in the amount of $12,468.
The board also approved the Tuscarawas County Board of Election’s request to use the Township Hall as a polling location and to waive the $35 fee.
The Lawrence Township Board of Trustees meets the second and last Thursday of every month at 7 p.m. at the Charles E. Lundenberger Hall, 10867 Industrial Parkway NW, Bolivar. All meetings are open to the public.
