Thunder Over Holmes County will once again present plenty of fun for the kids, with all types of inflatables and games surrounding the Holmes County Courthouse. The big event will take place in HDM on Saturday, June 28.Submitted
The thunder will roll once again through Historic Downtown Millersburg, but rather than having the thunder accompanied by rain and lightning, this thunder will include the glowing flash of colored lights in the night sky.
Independence Day is always a grand time of celebration, and Historic Downtown Millersburg is preparing to celebrate the holiday in a big way with a fireworks display, plenty of kids games, some shopping and a day devoted to community.
The annual Thunder Over Holmes County celebration will take place Saturday, June 28 in HDM, and as always there will be plenty of action taking place, both at ground level and in the nighttime sky.
HDM Executive Director Taylor Sigler is excited to present this year’s event.

“It’s going to be a busy, busy day, but it’s also going to be exciting for us to put on a special event,” Sigler said. “I’m excited to show our spirit here in HDM so we can showcase what our community is all about.”
The family-oriented day will begin at 1 p.m. with the kids games and inflatables around the Holmes County Courthouse. As was the case last year, members from the West Holmes High School FFA chapter will help kids with the games, something Sigler said frees up parents to explore the downtown area.
“One of the fun things about this event is that it gives families a chance to stroll through the downtown area and check out all of the neat stores we have,” Sigler said. “They can shop for vintage antiques, buy some chocolates, jewelry or visit the art gallery, and there’s a lot more to take in. This continues to be a very community-oriented event that is perfect for the whole family, and we’re always excited to give our younger generations a reason to visit HDM.”
In addition to the kids games and shopping, there will be food trucks available along with plenty of fine dining options throughout downtown.
Once the youngsters have burned off plenty of energy in the game area, families can settle in and look forward to an excellent fireworks display at dusk.
“We truly appreciate the Holmes County Chamber of Commerce & Tourism Bureau and the Holmes County Commissioners stepping up and providing some additional funding for the fireworks display,” Sigler said. “It should be a fantastic night of fireworks and a great way to cap off a thrilling day.”
Sigler said presenting these types of community-oriented events are critical because so often many of the events are geared toward drawing in tourism. She said this is one event that is designed specifically with the locals in mind.
“We want to make this a special day for our local families and the community to come together and enjoy a relaxed, fun day of celebrating the holiday together,” Sigler said.
It should be an event-filled day families won’t want to miss as HDM celebrates Independence Day the small-town way.
