The Dover Public Library invites teens in sixth grade through 12th grade to join the Role Playing Game Club for a one-shot adventure called The Winter Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 21 from 2-5 p.m.

In the game players will portray heroes invited to participate in various challenges to see who can become the champion. Registration is not required. Interested patrons can call the library at 330-343-6123.

This event is based on role playing games like Dungeons and Dragons, customized for teen patrons of the library. Players take on the role of a character, like a bard or a wizard, and enter a world of collaborative storytelling based on a premise given to them by the game leader.

Choices made by the characters affect the story, with dice rolls and character traits determining how those actions are resolved. The current story may come to an end, but players can take what they have started and continue the story in a new campaign of their own creation.

“We hope this adventure serves as a good introduction to role playing games while offering a fun holiday twist,” teen services manager Liz Strauss said.

For this adventure players can bring or make their own character of any level, from any role playing game. Premade characters also will be provided for those who want to jump into the game quickly.

This event is sponsored in part by a 21st Century Afterschool Learning Grant with Dover High School, which supports learning opportunities outside the classroom.

The Dover Public Library is located at 525 N. Walnut St. in Dover and online at www.doverlibrary.org.
