Dover Public Library has announced its summer reading theme: “Librarypalooza — All Things That Rock!”
“We do have plenty of books and programs related to music, but we want kids to know libraries have information on lots of cool things,” said Claire Kandle, youth services manager. “Dinosaurs, gems, science and nature, art, and community service, there is a rockin’ book or program for everyone.”
Registration for the reading challenge is open until June 21. Kids who register for summer reading will be required to complete 800 minutes of reading between June 4 and July 28.
They will earn incentive prizes as they go through the reading chart. When they complete their reading, they will receive 10 tickets for a grand prize drawing, a free book of their choice, a T-shirt and a family ticket to the End of Summer Pool Party, which will be held Aug. 11 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Dover Pool.
Other grand prize tickets will be offered for attending certain programs throughout the summer.
Jim Gill, director of Dover Public Library, will brave the dunk tank at a special event if at least half of the kids who register for the reading challenge complete their chart.
“We are adding an extra special incentive for kids to finish the reading challenge this year,” Kandle said. “If we reach the library completion goal, we get to dunk the director.”
