Students to be recognized at career center

A select group of Buckeye Career Center students is being recognized for receiving the Buckeye Career Center Foundation Scholarship. The 35 seniors will be honored at the annual Buckeye Foundation Awards Ceremony on May 8 at Buckeye Career Center. This year’s winners represent 19 BCC labs and 13 schools.

The money can be used for more than just higher education. “We are one of a very few scholarships that can be used for tools of their trade or adult vocational education,” said Kimberly Hobart Fleming, Buckeye Foundation president and awards ceremony event chair. The scholarships are made possible by community contributions. Each of the 35 students will be awarded a scholarship of $2,500.

Mako’s Market of Uhrichsville and Ferris Chevrolet of New Philadelphia will be recognized for their continued support of Buckeye Career Center. Both companies routinely hire BCC students and participate in various events at BCC.

Kayla Blake, a 2015 teaching professions alumna, is the previous scholarship award winner. Blake earned her RN from Kent State University and is working as a flight nurse while continuing her BSN education. Roxanne Dunn, a 2006 intro to nursing alumna, is the Alumni of the Year. Dunn graduated from Slippery Rock College and is currently a teacher at Starlight.

The Buckeye Foundation Awards Ceremony is free to attend, but reservations are required. Tours of the building will be available from 6-6:35 p.m. with the program beginning at 6:45 p.m.
