A timeline update was given for the proposed multipurpose facility, community center, police station, library and Carpenter’s Cupboard during the May 20 meeting of Strasburg Village Council.

The request for qualifications was released to qualified firms May 6. The contract award/board execution would be complete by July 25, and the design and construction complete by June 30, 2026. Mayor Bruce Metzger and Village Administrator Mike Rosenberry met with Stark Truss for an in-kind donation and will meet with ProVia June 2.

Council passed a resolution hiring Kyland Robinson as a full-time police officer, effective May 27, and Darren Avon, part-time police officer. Each will serve a six-month probationary period.

Council also did the following:

—Passed a resolution to hire Alvin Cody as a part-time park employee at $15.45 per hour.

—Held the first reading of an ordinance regulating door-to-door and public property solicitation. Door-to-door and public property solicitation is prohibited without a permit.

—Passed an emergency resolution ratifying hiring Michael Frame as a full-time police officer. He began duties May 12.

—Learned Willandale Sales and Service will provide earth-moving equipment to install a parking lot at the soccer field. The work will begin the end of June or early July.

—Heard residents from Bodmer Avenue to Fifth Street Southwest to the cemetery will be asked to fill out a low-income survey from OMEGA prior to new waterlines being installed.

—Heard the Sibley Mart sign relocation, which includes new curbing, rounding the corner on Wooster Avenue will cost $24,150. The cost has increased about $5,000 since the first quote was received a year ago.

—Heard the pickleball courts have all stanchion work for fence and netting installed, and sealing of all cracks for resurfacing prep is complete. Poles and lights have been ordered. It will take five to six weeks to complete.

—Learned Ted Foster, zoning inspector, issued permits for a storage shed and fence at 707 Dale Ave. NW, a carport at 1175 N. Wooster Ave., and a fence and garage in a rear yard at 211 Fourth St. SW.
