Saved by the Belt: Highway Patrol to honor crash survivors

The New Philadelphia Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol will hold a Saved by the Belt recognition ceremony at Midvale Speedway July 19 at 5 p.m.

Saved by the Belt certificates and license plates will be presented to William Jones, Robert Lacaze and Angela Butterworth. Jones was involved in a three-vehicle crash Jan. 18, 2025, in Tuscarawas County. Lacaze and Butterworth were involved in a two-vehicle crash Dec. 23, 2024, in Carroll County.

According to the patrol, the use of safety belts by these individuals prevented them from sustaining life-threatening injuries.

Additionally, representatives from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office and New Philadelphia Police Department will be present to discuss the importance of seat belt use and ongoing efforts to make local communities safer.

Midvale Speedway is located at 3825 State St., New Philadelphia.
