The Orrville Railroad Heritage Society announced a lineup of spring events for April and May, inviting the community to experience railroad history through a variety of family-friendly activities.

On Saturday, April 26, the organization will host Speeder Rides from noon to 4 p.m. at the rail yard located at 2174 S. Crownhill Road. The 15-minute ride gives passengers a close-up view of the railroad aboard a motorcar, commonly called a “speeder.” These cars were once used by track workers to transport materials in remote areas. The ride takes guests past the bridge over the North Fork of Sugarcreek.

Tickets are available on-site during the event only and cost $5 per person when paying with cash or $6 per person when using a credit or debit card. Speeders will operate continuously based on demand. The Caboose Gift Shop also will be open.

On Saturday, May 10, a Mother’s Day Special train ride will be offered at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Guests can choose between open-air Car No. 501 and the enclosed coach Car No. 208. Tickets are $20 for Car No. 501 and $25 for Car No. 208, plus online ticketing fees. Each mother will receive a free gift while supplies last. Tickets must be purchased in advance through Etix.

The season will continue Saturday, May 24 with the Superhero Summer Kickoff Train Rides at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Riders can select seats in either Car No. 501 for $15 or Car No. 208 for $25, plus online ticketing fees. Free snow cones and popcorn will be available for all passengers. Tickets are available online via Etix.
