On Tuesday, Feb. 4 at 6:30 p.m., local cartoonist and educator Douglas Laubacher will talk about his passion for the arts and the development and evolution of his original cartoon series, “Unbound,” which appears in the Bargain Hunter newspapers.
Laubacher’s interest in art began at an early age. While being home-schooled through middle and high school, Laubacher took private art lessons. He then went on to earn his B.A. in fine arts at the University of Mount Union. He credits his inspiration to such well-known cartoons as “Calvin and Hobbes,” “Peanuts” and “The Far Side.” During the presentation Laubacher will share details about his personal creative process.
In addition to spending between four and 12 hours in order to draw each strip, Laubacher inspires people of all ages to explore their artistic talents at classes he teaches throughout Northeast Ohio. He has taught at the Tuscarawas County Center for the Arts, the Canton Museum of Art, Malone College and Rocky River Senior Center, as well as at many libraries.
Original artwork from the “Unbound” strip is currently on display in the community room at the Dover Public Library, 525 N. Walnut St.
After the program Laubacher will be available to autograph copies of his newly released
book. Call the library at 330-343-6123 to register for the event.
