The Holmes County District Public Library announced a full calendar of events and programs for June, offering something for every age group.
The summer season kicks off with “Color Our World,” the 2025 Summer Reading Program, which began May 23 and runs through July 19. This initiative features reading programs for all ages and opportunities to win prizes. Registration opened May 23 at both the Holmes Central Library and East Branch Library.
Starting Wednesday, June 4 and continuing weekly through June 25, family storytime will be held at the East Branch Library at 10:30 a.m. Children age 2-5, accompanied by an adult, are invited to enjoy stories and activities.
On Thursday, June 5 at 1 p.m., families are invited to experience Outback Ray’s Amazing Animal Show at the Holmes Central Library. This outdoor educational program features exotic animals in a hands-on setting. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets, weather permitting.
Beginning Friday, June 6, the Holmes Central Library will host storytime every Friday at 10:30 a.m. throughout the month. These sessions, running June 6, 13, 20 and 27, are designed for kids age 2-5 with an adult, and they include stories, songs and rhymes.
Immediately following storytime each Friday, the Little Learners Playgroup will be held from 11 a.m. to noon at the Holmes Central Library. Kids up to age 5 with an adult can participate in activities that support early literacy and social skills. Snacks will be provided.
On Thursday, June 12, two programs are scheduled at the Holmes Central Library. At 1:30 p.m. families with school-age children can join the Science Heroes: Missing Color Adventure, an interactive session where participants help solve a mystery using science experiments. Later that evening at 5:30 p.m., The Salad Days of Summer: What’s in Your Bowl? will be presented by Kate Shumaker from OSU Extension Services. This program will explore nutritious salad ideas. Registration is required.
On Saturday, June 14 from 11 a.m. to noon, children can participate in Paws to Read, a program where they can read aloud to certified therapy dogs from Caring Therapy Canines.
For Taylor Swift fans, Calling All Swifties will take place Monday, June 16 from 1-2:30 p.m. at the Holmes Central Library. This celebration includes friendship bracelet making, karaoke, trivia, a lyric-writing station, a photo booth and door prizes. Participants are encouraged to wear their favorite Eras Tour outfits.
On Tuesday, June 17 at 1:30 p.m., the Holmes Central Library will host a virtual field trip to the Greater Cleveland Aquarium. This livestreamed educational experience includes a Q-and-A and a chance to win two free passes. The program is geared toward families with children.
Book discussions for adults are scheduled for Tuesday, June 24 at the Holmes Central Library. At 1 p.m. the group will discuss “My Side of the River” by Elizabeth Camarillo Gutierrez. A second session at 6 p.m. will cover “Long Bright River” by Liz Moore.
On Wednesday, June 25 from 1-3 p.m., children age 4 and up are invited to a puppet theater workshop at the Holmes Central Library, where they can create puppets and practice performance techniques.
On Thursday, June 26 at 5:30 p.m., the Holmes Central Library will host Kids Craft Night - Jam Out, a music-themed craft session for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. Participants will create four music-related crafts. Registration is required.
