The next Wayne County Civil War Round Table program, which is free to attend, will be April 15 at 6:30 p.m. at the Wayne County Historical Society schoolhouse, located on the Wayne County Historical Society campus at 546 E. Bowman St. in Wooster.
The program will feature Chris Hart, who will present Tales from the Hart: Paws for the Cause. The year is 1872, and Civil War veteran Thomas Stewart is about to attend the funeral of a fellow soldier. But this is a very special colleague in arms: a dog named Curly. Curly served as the mascot of Stewart's company during the war.
Tales from the Hart is a venture that enables Hart to combine history and storytelling. Appearing in costume, Hart brings to life numerous historical and literary characters (over 65 to date and still expanding), ranging from Cy Young to Ichabod Crane and Peter Daley, a Titanic survivor. Hart presents programs on Civil War subjects such as pharmacy, dogs and ghosts. Hart also portrays biblical characters such as Noah's son Shem and a shepherd present at the nativity, as well as Martin Luther.
Hart's interest in history was featured in In Character, Ohio Magazine, Now and Then Magazine, and Ohio Cooperative Living, as well as numerous newspapers throughout the state. He has retired as pastor at the Birds Run Community Church and is now interim pastor at Gospel Hill Ministries in Warsaw. He is available for period weddings.
