Garaway Board of Education approves AV equipment

Garaway Local School District students will soon have an array of visual and audio equipment installed in the new Wellness Center. At the Feb. 12 meeting, the board approved Dawson Security to install the equipment at a cost of $28,400. The center is located behind the school and has a connected walkway into the facility.
The board also approved a change order with Gor-Con of Dover for bathroom flooring in the Wellness Center at a cost of $1,250. Tekton Engineering LLC was hired to engineer the Wellness Center parking lot at a total cost of $23,500 for all phases of the project.
The board also did the following:
—Entered into a contract with Belden Brick Company for the calendar year for rental of the athletic fields at a cost of $350.
—Approved a list of 13 volunteers for various school extra curriculars.
—Approved engine repair for bus five by Rush Truck Sales at a cost of $8,805.
—Gave approval to the TESOL teacher’s job description for students of other backgrounds.
—Approved a memorandum of understanding with Kent State University, Akron University and Stark State College pertaining to College Credit Plus.
—Approved membership in the Ohio High School Athletic Association at no cost to the district.
—Waived the district van fee for the Appalachian Trail Hike this spring.
—Approved the eighth-grade trip to Washington, D.C. May 13-15.
—Entered a contract with Mowing Solutions LLC for mowing all the athletic fields at the cost of $324 per mowing.
—Approved out-of-state travel to Virginia Beach, Virginia for high school and middle school wrestling, April 4-7.
—Accepted the retirement/resignation of Gail Vaughn, Ragersville Elementary School secretary, effective at the end of the day on June 6, and Robin Bardun, high school science and math teacher, effective at the end of the 2023-24 school year.
—Approved Valerie Hershberger as a community liaison, retroactive to the beginning of the 2023-24 school year.
—Granted one-year supplemental coaching contracts to Justin Elmore, head baseball; Darren Yosick, junior varsity baseball; Cody Jerles, freshman baseball; Rick Johnson, head softball; Derrick Regula, JV softball; Scott Sauernheimer, freshman softball; Zach Mottice, varsity head track; Jason Wallick, varsity assistant track; Kieve Johnson and Adam Stilgenbauer, both varsity assistant track (split stipend); and Kyle Dunn and Susan Schlabach, both middle school track.

The board recognized January Student of the Month recipients: Tristan Miller, high school; Kalea Hamsher, middle school; Alex Immel, fine arts; Payton Keller, employee; and Meghan Schwartz and Gabe Amicone, athletes.
The next board meeting will be held March 18 at 6 p.m. in the high school library at 146 Dover Road NW in Sugarcreek.
