On Sunday, Jan. 19, the First Baptist Church, located at 140 Regent St. in Dover, will host The Christopher Lowery Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Tribute in honor of the Martin Luther King holiday.

For the first time, the event will not be held on the actual holiday so as not to conflict with the presidential inauguration and the Ohio State championship game. The free event will begin at 7 p.m.

Rev. Henry Leon McNeil will serve as the keynote address speaker. McNeil is a Vietnam War veteran who served in the United States Army.

“We are extremely honored to have a leader of Rev. Henry McNeil’s caliber join us for what has really grown over the years to become Tuscarawas County’s premier event and celebration of the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.,” said Rev. Rasheed As-Samad, the pastor at the First Baptist Church. “Each year this event brings together civic and spiritual leaders from throughout the county to honor Dr. King and share his message of hope and inspiration.”

New Philadelphia Law Director Marvin T. Fete will serve as the master of ceremonies for the occasion, and there will be music and fellowship during the event.
