A benefit for Brynn Goedel originally scheduled to be held at Buckeye Career Center has been moved to the old Tusky Valley High School, which is now Tusky Valley Elementary School, on Feb. 3 beginning at 4 p.m. Goedel survived the bus-semi accident that took the lives of six people on Nov. 14 in Licking County.

Goedel suffered substantial injuries in the crash including multiple pelvic and rib fractures, a lacerated bladder, a broken collarbone, and a concussion. To date, Goedel has soldiered through multiple surgeries and gotten back on her feet enough to go home on Dec. 27.

The benefit is being held to raise funds to help offset the medical expenses that are likely to mount up during Goedel’s ongoing recovery. Sisters Tina Armstrong and Jackie Kandel, whose daughter is a friend of Goedel’s, are organizing the event.

While Goedel has reached a milestone by returning home, she will likely need substantial time to fully recover, and the Goedel home may need some modifications. HRN Restoration and Wood Electric have offered to help in that regard.

According to Kandel, the event will include a live auction, a silent auction, a kids auction and lots of raffles. For those unfamiliar with a kids auction, it means a basket filled with items kids love.

Kathy Stotzer has donated food, and her catering service will provide a pasta dinner for those who attend the event.

Kandel said even though they have received a good number of donations, the more they have, the more likely it is the benefit will reach its $100,000 goal.

Auction items still being accepted

“We are still in need of items for the silent and live auctions, as well as raffle baskets,” Kandel said.

Kandel also said the organizers could use help obtaining items they will need to run the event such as cellophane wrap to wrap gift baskets and takeout containers for food.

A gift list has been placed on amazon.com for those who would like to donate. There is a link on the Brynn Goedel Benefit Facebook page.

Donated items to date

The items donated for the auctions and raffles span a variety of interests and needs and include the following:

—A diamond pendant necklace, donated by Dunkin’s Diamonds.

—Free processing of one deer by Long Lane Meats in Baltic.

—A 65-inch Toshiba Fire TV with Nintendo Switch and other items, donated by Battle Motors.

—Two weeks of dog training and boarding by Tom Shelley, All Breed Training Service.

—A custom oak bench and stool donated by Steve and Val Stocker, Stocker Woodworking.

—A battery-operated snowblower and a Husqvarna Mower donated by Winfield Power Equipment.

—Several fishing gear packages.

—Numerous baskets containing everything from salon products to bourbon and pet care.

Additionally, Kandel said there will be two guns raffled. One is a Mossberg CVA Acura Extreme Series muzzle loader, with ticket sales limited to 54 tickets at $20 each. The other is a Colt King Cobra .357 stainless steel with a 4.25 barrel, for which 200 tickets will be sold at $10 each or six for $50.

Those who cannot attend but would like to help can donate to the Brynn Goedel Benefit Fund at First Federal Community Bank in Dover. Venmo payments will be accepted by the bank and at the auction.

Food donations for the dinner can be made by calling Stotzer at 330-243-1594. Donations of items for the auction and raffles can be dropped off at Shoup’s Cleaning, 1558 Truss Road SW, New Philadelphia.
