The Friends of the Tuscarawas County Public Library are now accepting applications for the Nellie Stockwell Memorial Grant in Aid. Named in honor of the library’s first librarian, the grant is available to local students planning to pursue education beyond high school.
“This grant supports our mission to promote literacy and lifelong learning,” said Candy Beaber, president of the Friends of the Library. “Thanks to a generous donation from VFW Post 1445, this year’s recipient will receive a $1,000 award.”
Eligible applicants must be graduates of a local high school or residents of Tuscarawas County seeking higher education. Applicants with a GED also will be considered. Anyone unsure about eligibility may email tcplevents@tusclibrary.org.
Applicants must submit three letters of recommendation and proof of enrollment or admission to an accredited college, university or technical school, including online programs. A 500-word typed essay explaining why the Tuscarawas County Public Library System is important to the applicant also is required.
Applications are available at school guidance offices and the Tuscarawas County Main Library in New Philadelphia. Completed applications must be submitted by June 1. They may be dropped off at the Tuscarawas County Main Library or mailed to Friends Scholarship Committee, Tuscarawas County Public Library, 121 Fair Ave. NW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
Late applications will not be accepted. The winner will be notified by late summer.
The grant is offered by the Friends of the Tuscarawas County Public Library in New Philadelphia, a 501(c)(3) organization. The library system includes the Tuscarawas County Main Library and branches in Bolivar, Strasburg, Sugarcreek and Tuscarawas, along with Mobile Services.
