The Tuscarawas County Public Library will host the Carnegie Museum of Natural History of Pittsburgh on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 1 p.m. to present a program featuring a life-size Spinosaurus at Jim’s Place in New Philadelphia.
“With the popularity of dinosaurs and the release of the latest ‘Jurassic World’ movie, we are excited to offer this family event to our fall programs,” public relations associate Megan Kovalaske-Grimm said.
A museum expert will guide attendees on a journey back to the Age of Dinosaurs. Those in attendance will get to dig for fossils and discuss habitats and adaptations.
“The highlight of the event will be hearing and seeing the museum’s carnivore named Spiny come to life,” Kovalaske-Grimm said.
Spiny is the museum’s 10-foot-tall, 15-foot-long mechanical Spinosaurus dinosaur puppet. Spinosaurus, meaning “spine lizard,” is a genus of theropod dinosaur that is believed to have lived in what is now North Africa about 112 to 93.5 million years ago. Spinosaurus was among the largest of all known carnivorous dinosaurs, believed to be nearly as large as or even larger than Tyrannosaurus and Giganotosaurus.
This free program will be held at Jim’s Place, 228 W. High Ave., New Philadelphia. Space is limited, and registration is required.
