Joel Welch of Coshocton County made his third trip to the state wrestling tournament.

Joel Welch of Columbus St. Francis DeSales claimed the Division II State Wrestling Championship in the 165-pound weight class March 15.

Welch, from Coshocton County, won by way of injury default to his opponent Kamden Stout of Claymont.

Welch was leading 3-0 in the first period when Stout sustained the injury.

This was the third straight trip to the state wrestling championship for the DeSales junior.

In 2025 Welch was All-Ohio and finished in second place at 165 pounds.

His freshman year, Welch wrestled at 157 and was 2-2 at the state tournament.
