Ridgewood schools to deliver free summer meals

Eligible district students can receive meal boxes at home every two weeks beginning the week of June 8 if families register by May 22

Ridgewood Local Schools recently announced the return of its free summer meals program.

Ridgewood Local Schools announced the return of its free summer meals program. Through the Rural Non-Congregate Summer Food Service Program, eligible students enrolled in the district will have access to free meal boxes delivered directly to their homes.

The program is designed to help support student nutrition throughout the summer months when school is not in session. All children age 1-18 enrolled in Ridgewood Local Schools, as well as students age 19-21 on an IEP, are eligible to participate. Families who enroll will receive one meal box every two weeks containing 10 breakfasts and 10 lunches.

Meal boxes will be shipped directly to homes and packaged with insulated liners and temperature-monitoring materials to ensure food safety and quality. The first delivery is anticipated to begin the week of Monday, June 8. There are no income requirements to participate in the program.

Superintendent Mike Masloski emphasized the importance of supporting students beyond the school year.

“Ridgewood Local Schools understands that proper nutrition plays a critical role in a child’s overall well-being and ability to learn,” Masloski said. “We are proud to offer this opportunity to our families and encourage everyone who qualifies to take advantage of this free program. We want to help ensure our students continue to have access to healthy meals throughout the summer.”

Families must complete the registration form by Friday, May 22 to participate. The district encourages families to sign up as soon as possible to ensure timely delivery of meals.
