Nearly 30 students from Dalton, Smithville, Wooster and Orrville schools participated in a full day of career exploration during the Envision Your Future event, held in collaboration with the Orrville Area Chamber of Commerce and Tri-County Educational Service Center.
Sponsored by MOOG, Heartland Education Community Inc. and Sayre Hospitality Group, the event introduced students to the “Three E’s” — enrollment, employment and enlistment, pathways designed to help students plan their next steps after high school.
Students began the day by completing a career survey to identify career clusters aligned with their interests. They then engaged in a variety of hands-on sessions led by local employers and educators.
Tommy Guidetti from Schaeffler discussed apprenticeship opportunities and how students can gain paid experience while learning a trade. Sandy Elliott from Wayne County Schools Career Center shared how adult education programs can help individuals build in-demand skills. Cathy Finks from The College of Wooster provided insight into college readiness and the steps seventh grade through ninth grade students can take now to prepare for higher education.
WCSCC also brought current students to provide live demonstrations of 13 different career programs offered at the center, giving attendees a firsthand look at possible future career paths.
Maddie Bergoon from The Quality Castings Company spoke about the importance of employability skills such as teamwork, communication and reliability.
“The habits you build now will shape your future,” Bergoon said.
The day concluded with a panel of career speakers — Keegan Bess from ARC Electric Solutions, Mic Merriman from MOOG, Lindy Griesinger from Jarrett and Kendall Louanglath from 444 Hibachi Grill — who shared their personal career journeys and the educational choices that led them to their current roles.
“Events like this are about helping students see the possibilities that exist right here in our community,” said Dan Franks, president of the Orrville Area Chamber of Commerce. “By connecting them directly with employers, educators and skilled professionals, we’re helping them envision their own future pathways.”
