Aquarius art exhibit winners revealed in Medina
Local artists honored at Medina County District Library's annual exhibition, running through March 1.
Artists and community members gathered Jan. 31 at the Medina County District Library for the opening reception of the 22nd annual Aquarius art exhibition, where award winners were announced.
The exhibit, presented by the Medina County Art League, features 107 two-dimensional and three-dimensional works created by league members. This year’s exhibition was judged by Akron artist Carolyn E. Lewis, who said she looked for strong design, composition, values, color harmony, technical execution and emotional content, noting the variety of styles and media on display.
Best of Show honors were awarded to Pat Edwards for “Peacock,” a watercolor. First place went to Bob Kelly for “Cutting Board #2,” a woodcrafting piece. Second place was awarded to Joan Samkow for the photograph “Mystic Woodland,” and third place went to Betty Siska for “The Road Less Traveled,” created in pastel.
Merit awards were presented to Linda Kenski for “Turbulence 1 & 2,” an alcohol ink diptych on yupo, and to Bill Beuther for the photograph “Enthralled.”
Honorable mentions were awarded to Carol Klingel for “Centering,” oil on wood; Leo Miller for “Jack the Rabbit,” welded metal with auto paint; Patricia Tilk for “Grief,” graphite; and Cathy Welner for “Winter Stream,” watercolor.
Co-chair Deanna Clucas said the Aquarius exhibit will remain on display through March 1 during regular library hours. Visitors are encouraged to vote for their favorite artwork for the People’s Choice Award.
The Medina County Art League has 133 members and is open to anyone 17 or older who is interested in supporting the arts. Membership meetings are open to guests and are typically held on the fourth Monday of each month.
