Rallies prove costly to Centerburg baseball

Cardington, East Knox use late-game heroics for victories

On April 15, Cardington got its revenge in a wild affair. Centerburg led 12-8 late in the game, but Cardington scored three in the sixth and two in the seventh to grab a 13-12 victory.

Vinny Morgan and Dustin Parker each had a double and two singles to lead the Trojans. Caleb Adams added three singles, while Gabe Campos doubled in three runs.

Parker tossed the first four innings for CHS, striking out seven. Kaleb Rauck finished up, fanning one.

The Trojans bounced back on April 18, scoring 12 in the fifth inning to beat Madison, 12-3.

Morgan poked a double and two singles to lead CHS. Parker added a double and single.

Bradley Baker started for Centerburg, striking out two in 2.2 innings. Brody Cole and Morgan combined for the final 4.1 innings, Cole fanning four and Morgan one.

A late rally by East Knox proved costly for Centerburg on April 21, as the Trojans fell 6-5.

Ryan Long led the Trojans with two singles, while Baker smacked a double. Parker, Adams, Campos and Lincoln Julian all singled.

Baker went the distance on the mound, striking out three.

Softball

Centerburg made it a clean sweep with a 17-10 victory over Cardington on April 15.

Sydnee Schoonover belted two home runs and a single while driving in five runs to lead the Trojans. Abby Herren added a home run, double, single and three RBI, while Kinlie Sharp had a double and three singles. Kallie Webb had three singles, Morgan Beaver and Taylor Bryant had two each, and Lydia Gribben smacked a solo home run.

Beaver worked the first four innings, striking out four. Herren finished up, fanning three.

Centerburg fell to Dublin Scioto, 7-4, on April 17, despite leading 4-1 late in the game.

Jazmyn Larimore smacked two doubles, a triple and a single to lead Centerburg. Herren added a home run.

Beaver started on the mound, striking out three in three innings of work. Herren fanned five in two innings and Cline struck out one in her inning.

The Trojans pounded out 13 hits in a 10-0 victory over Olentangy Liberty on April 18.

Bryant led the assault with two doubles, two singles and three RBI. Larimore added two doubles and a single, while Schoonover had three singles and Herren hit another home run.

Beaver pitched the first five innings, fanning two. Herren finished up, striking out one.

A pair of five-run innings last helped the Trojans to a 15-4 victory over Bishop Hartley on April 20.

Herren pounded two home runs and two singles, driving in four runs, to lead Centerburg. Bryant added four singles, while Larimore had two doubles and a single. Gribben cracked three singles; Grace O’Quinn had a double and a single; and Webb had two singles.

Beaver started on the hill, striking out four in five innings. Briley Cline finished up.

A 10-run third inning helped propel Centerburg to a 22-5 victory over East Knox on April 21.

Herren had a home run and three doubles to lead the offense. Schoonover added a home run, two doubles and a single, while Emma Shaw had three singles. Bryant had two singles and Beaver doubled.

Beaver pitched the first two innings, striking out four. Jeanne Dial finished up, fanning five.

Track

The Centerburg boys captured the team title at the Cowen Invitational on April 18 at Loudonville.

The Trojans won three events on the day. Marshall cleared 6-foot to win the high jump; Jackson Ballinger threw the discus 143-6; and the 4x100 relay team of Blane Ball, Hayden Love, Eli Indiciani and Miles Marshall won in 44.64. Marshall also finished second in the 100 (11.43).

The girls team finished 12th at Loudonville.

The 4x800 relay team of Payton Tucker, Henry, Afton Ellis and Audrey Garner had the highest showing, placing fifth in 11:55.74.
