Mount Vernon releases free family movie night schedule

Bringing neighbors together with a free five-movie lineup

Mount Vernon will be hosting a free family movie night series this summer at the Schnormeier Event Center at Ariel-Foundation Park. The first will be Saturday, June 27, at 8 p.m.

Grab your blankets, pack up your lawn chairs, and gather your loved ones! The City of Mount Vernon is excited to announce the return of its highly anticipated Free Family Movie Night series. Spanning from early summer through late autumn, this five-movie lineup offers local residents and visitors a fantastic opportunity for free, outdoor family fun.

All screenings in the series will be hosted at the iconic Schnormeier Event Center, located within Ariel-Foundation Park (201 S. Norton Street).

To accommodate seasonal changes and early sunset times, the series will pivot to an exciting afternoon matinee for its spooky grand finale on Halloween.

2026 Free Family Movie Night Schedule:

●Saturday, June 27 at 8 p.m. – Shrek (PG)

Kick off the summer with everyone’s favorite green ogre, Donkey, and a star-studded fairytale adventure.

●Saturday, July 18 at 8 p.m. – Jurassic Park (PG-13)

Experience the thrill of Steven Spielberg's legendary dinosaur masterpiece on the big screen under the stars.

●Saturday, August 22 at 8 p.m. – Grease (PG)

Bring your singing voices for a nostalgic late-summer night featuring Rydell High's favorite T-Birds and Pink Ladies.

●Saturday, September 26 at 8 p.m. – Encanto (PG)

Journey into the mountains of Colombia to celebrate the magic of the Madrigal family in this beautifully animated, musical phenomenon.

●Saturday, October 31 at 2 p.m. (Special Halloween Matinee) – Hocus Pocus (PG)

Before heading out for trick-or-treating, join the Sanderson Sisters for the ultimate spooky season comedy. Costumes are highly encouraged!

"We are thrilled to bring our community to the Schnormeier Event Center for another summer season of outdoor movies," said Jeff Derr, Recreation Director. "This series is all about bringing neighbors, friends, and families together in a relaxed setting to enjoy great films completely free of charge.

"Admission to all five events is entirely free. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to secure a prime spot. While seating is open, guests should bring their own blankets and lawn chairs.

In the event of severe inclement weather, delays or cancellations will be posted on the city’s official social media pages and website.
