Freddie boys' basketball team moves to 17-0 after pair of victories

The Fredericktown boys' basketball team had the rally of a lifetime Feb. 4. The
Freddies, with their undefeated record on the line, trailed host North Union by
seven at halftime, and still by three entering the fourth quarter. But a 16-3 fourth-quarter
surge helped lift them to a 71-61 victory over the Wildcats.
The Freddies connected on 67 percent of their shots on the
night (29 of 43) and scored 48 points in the paint.

Zane Luckmeier led the Freddies with 21 points and five
rebounds. He connected on 9 of 11 shots for the game. Gavin Toombs added 18
points, eight rebounds and four assists, while Carson Rinehart had 13 points,
six assists and five rebounds. Tanner Estep checked in with 11 points and four
assists, and Blake Sipes had eight points and five rebounds.
The Freddies followed that up with a 61-43 victory over
Centerburg on Feb. 6 to move to 17-0 on the season.
FHS used a 28-2 second-quarter advantage to pull away from
the Trojans.
Toombs led the Freddies with 14 points. Rinehart added 12
points, six assists and four rebounds, while Sipes had 10 points and five
rebounds. Luckmeier had eight points, seven rebounds and three steals, while
Karsyn Clutter had eight points and four rebounds.
Girls’ wrestling
The Fredericktown girls’ wrestling team finished 19th
in the 29-team Maysville Panthers Girls’ Invitational on Feb. 8.

The Freddies scored 31 points on the day.
Truth Yarman finished seventh at 115 pounds for the
Freddies. She won her first two matches via pin (0:58 and 0:54) before falling
in her next two. She then pinned Calleigh Cole of Caldwell in 2:08 to finish
seventh overall.
Ruthlynn Mejia-Evener won one match at 235, while Addison
Hess (100) and Anna Miller (155) also participated for the Freddies.
