Fredericktown girls win three events at Cowen Track Invitational
Bouton picks up two throwing wins, Alexander gets another in pole vault
The Fredericktown girls track team won three events in finishing fourth at the Cowen Invitational on April 18 at Loudonville.
Ella Bouton won two of those events — the shot put (43-foot-6) and the discus (139-1). Jenny Alexander came out on top in the pole vault, clearing 10-6.
The Freddies’ 4x800 relay team of Gwen Lavin, Elizabeth Swartzentruber, Sophia Overholt and Angela Overholt came in fourth at 11:03.36.
Fredericktown’s boys finished seventh overall.
The 4x100 relay team of Blake Sipes, Gavin Toombs, Logan Roush and Tanner Estep finished second in a time of 45.04. Anson Wenger placed third in the 800 (2:06.38) and Sipes was fourth in the 100 (11.60).
Softball
A 10-run first inning propelled Fredericktown to a 22-1 victory over East Knox on April 15.
Baylee Newton smacked two doubles and a single to lead the Freddies. Jazzy Wittman and Aubree Whitley each had a double and two singles, while Vika Arnett and Kiersten Mills had two singles apiece.
Arnett worked the first two innings on the mound, fanning five. Haylee Frye finished up, striking out three.
The offense kept rolling on April 16, as Fredericktown beat West Holmes, 12-10.
Wittman led the Freddies with two doubles and a single. Whitley, Abbey Wittman, Halie Mull and Natalie Mull each had two singles.
Natalie Mull went the distance on the mound, fanning one.
A five-run first inning proved to be enough in a 7-3 victory for the Freddies over River Valley on April 17.
Abbey Wittman and Halie Mull each had a double and a single to lead FHS. Whitley added two singles.
Arnett pitched all seven innings, striking out three.
A late rally wasn’t quite enough for Fredericktown on April 21, as the Freddies gave up a run in the bottom of the seventh to lose 9-8 to Cardington.
Jazzy Wittman led the Freddies with a home run, double and four RBI. Newton and Natalie Mull added two singles apiece, while Arnett, Abbey Wittman, Ella Au and Rylei Schulties all singled.
Arnett went the distance on the mound, striking out two.
Baseball
Fredericktown surrendered three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to fall, 7-6, to East Knox on April 15.
Gavin Buzzard smacked three singles to lead Fredericktown. Jayce Beeman and Vince Lavin added two singles each.
Carson Rinehart started for FHS, fanning two in 4.1 innings. Zane Luckmeier and Lavin finished up, each fanning one.
A couple of big innings cost Fredericktown in a 16-6 loss to Ontario on April 18.
Graham Overholt poked two singles to pace the Freddies. Kaiden Gibson and Luckmeier each had a double.
Buzzard, Mason Bennett, Reese Hannan, Gavin Galbraith, Overholt and Luckmeier all pitched for Fredericktown.
The Freddies held off a late rally to pin an 8-6 loss on Cardington on April 21.
Reese Hannan smacked a double and two singles to lead the Freddies. Luckmeier added a double and a single, while Gibson had a double, and Overholt and Grady Mills both singled.
Rinehart started on the hill for FHS, fanning four in six innings of work. Nick LaFevre, Luckmeier and Lavin finished up.
