Fredericktown baseballers split pair of games

Freddies rebound after loss to beat Elgin

The Fredericktown baseball team won one and lost one this week.

Northridge scored 10 runs in the first two innings and went on to a 15-6 victory over Fredericktown on April 2.

Zane Luckmeier led the Freddies with a double and two singles. Graham Overholt, Grady Mills, Kaiden Gibson and Cole Burnside each had two singles, while Vince Lavin, Gavin Buzzard, Reese Hannan and Carson Rinehart had one each.

The Freddies used six pitchers on the day, including Burnside, Mason Bennett, Gavin Galbraith, Rinehart, Gibson and Overholt. Rinehart had three strike outs.

Fredericktown rebounded on April 4, smacking 17 hits in a 12-0 victory over Elgin.

Gibson and Tred Sanders led the assault with three singles each. Burnside and Rinehart each smacked two singles, while Lavin and Luckmeier had a double each. Overholt, Mills, Hannan, Buzzard and Kellen Algire had a single apiece.

Rinehart started on the mound, fanning three in four innings of work. Nick LaFevre finished up, fanning three.

Softball

The Fredericktown softball team ran into a buzzsaw with Licking Valley on Monday. The Panthers cranked out 12 hits en route to a 14-1 victory over the Freddies.

Abbey Wittman and Aubree Whitley each had a single to lead the Freddies. Wittman also drove in the team’s only run.

Natalie Mull started on the hill for FHS, fanning one in 2.1 innings. Vika Arnett finished up.

The Freddies pounded out 12 hits against Utica on Tuesday but it wasn’t enough as the Redskins pulled out an 8-6 victory.

Abbey Wittman led the Freddies with a double, two singles and two RBI. Halie Mull added three singles, while Whitley had a triple and Arnett had two singles and two RBI. Jazzy Wittman, Kiersten Mills and Natalie Mull all singled.

Natalie Mull went the distance on the mound, striking out one.
