Fredericktown baseball splits four-game week

The Fredericktown baseball team won two and lost two this week.

Fredericktown swept Knox Morrow Athletic Conference foe Loudonville this week. The Freddies tossed a three-hitter in winning 8-0 on April 8.

Nick LaFevre started on the mound for FHS, striking out six in five innings of work. Gavin Buzzard finished up, fanning four.

Zane Luckmeier led the Freddies offensively with three singles. Jayce Beeman added two hits, while Graham Overholt, Kaiden Gibson, Vince Lavin, Tred Sanders and Cole Burnside had one hit apiece.

The Freddies followed that up with a 9-3 victory on April 9.

Gibson and Lavin each stroked a single and a double to lead the Freddies. Kellen Algire also doubled, while Grady Mills had two singles. Overholt, Burnside and Buzzard all singled.

Carson Rinehart started on the hill, striking out two in 4.2 innings. Buzzard fanned two and Mason Bennett finished up.

Fredericktown then rallied to beat Wayne, 5-4, on April 10.

Beeman smacked a double and a single to lead Fredericktown. Luckmeier added two singles, while Gibson, Overholt, Mills, Rinehart and Burnside all singled.

Luckmeier fired the first 1.2 innings, striking out one. Gibson fanned two in 1.1 innings, while Bennett had four Ks in four innings of work.

The Freddies’ four-game win streak ended with a 10-1 loss to Columbus Academy on April 11.

Lavin had a double for Fredericktown’s only hit.

Beeman, Reese Hannan, Overholt and Buzzard all saw time on the hill for FHS. Hannan fanned two and Buzzard one.

The Freddies gave up too many big innings in falling to East Knox, 14-3, on Tuesday.

Fredericktown managed just five hits on the day — all singles — Lavin, Gibson, Overholt, Luckmeier and Mills.

Four Freddies spent time on the mound — LaFevre, Buzzard, Bennett and Hannan. LaFevre fanned two, while Buzzard and Hannan struck out one each.

Softball

The Fredericktown softball team dropped a pair of games at Highland on April 11.

The Freddies fell 13-7 in the opener. Jazzy Wittman smacked two home runs, two doubles and drove in five runs to lead the Freddies. Baylee Newton, Abbey Wittman and Aubree Whitley each added two singles, while Halie Mull doubled.

Vika Arnett went the distance on the mound, fanning one.

The Scots also won the nightcap, 10-4.

Jazzy Wittman cranked out a home run, a double and a single to lead FHS. Mull added two singles, while Arnett, Newton and Haylee Frye each singled.

Natalie Mull started on the hill for Fredericktown, fanning one in 4.2 innings. Frye finished up.
