Centerburg baseball wins pair of KMAC games
Softball squad also shines, winning three
Centerburg got a little revenge on Knox Morrow Athletic Conference foe Northmor on April 8.
The Trojans fell 5-1 to the Knights the day before but bounced back behind a solid pitching performance from Dustin Parker to grab a 2-0 victory on April 8.
Parker struck out two but only allowed four hits in the shutout victory.
Ryan Long led the Trojans offensively with three singles. Bradley Baker, Aiden Trobridge, Clarke Redd, Caleb Adams and Parker all singled.
Centerburg was then stymied by Clear Fork pitcher Myles Sharp in an 11-1 loss on Monday.
Sharp struck out four and allowed just one hit to the Trojans in the victory.
Redd had that lone hit – a solo home run in the second inning.
Redd, Brody Cole and Owen Wolford all threw for Centerburg, with Cole striking out two.
A four-run second inning helped propel the Trojans to a 7-4 victory over Cardington on Tuesday.
Trobridge smacked a double and two singles to lead the Trojans. Baker and Vinny Morgan added two singles each, while Parker had one.
Baker went the distance on the mound, fanning six.
Softball
Centerburg kept pace in the race for the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference crown with a pair of wins this week.
Centerburg made it a clean sweep of Northmor, beating the Knights 5-3 on April 8.
Jazmyn Larimore smacked a home run and a single to lead the Trojans. Sydnee Schoonover and Morgan Beaver each cracked a double and a single, while Abby Herren had two singles.
Beaver went the distance on the mound, striking out four.
Herren had a career day on Saturday, smacking three home runs and driving in seven runs to lead the Trojans to a 17-15 victory over St. Francis DeSales.
The senior hit the first pitch of the game out of the park, then added two home runs during a 10-run Trojan fifth inning.
Larimore, Schoonover and Kallie Webb each added a double and a single for CHS, with Webb driving in four runs. Taylor Bryant had two singles, while Beaver and Kinlie Sharp each had one.
Beaver started on the mound for Centerburg, striking out seven in 4.1 innings of work. Herren fanned one in her one inning of work, while Briley Cline finished up.
The Trojans jumped on Cardington early, then held on for an 8-4 victory on Tuesday.
Bryant and Sharp each had two singles to lead the Trojans. Schoonover added a double, while Larimore, Webb, Lydia Gribben and Beaver had one each.
Beaver struck out seven in seven innings of work for CHS.
Track
Centerburg’s boys track team had a strong showing in the Jim Proper Invitational on Saturday at Danville.
Blane Ball picked up the only Trojan event winner, taking first in the long jump at 20-foot-7. But several second and third-place finishes helped the Trojans along the way.
Andrew Dickhof was second in the 800-meter run in 2:07.77, while Skyler Merklin was runner-up in the 300 hurdles (43.72). Eli Indiciani came in third in the 100 (11.90); Carter Netting was third in the 1,600 (5:04.30); Miles Marshall won bronze in the high jump (5-6); and Sam Dickhof placed third in the 3,200 (11:09.24). The 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams also finished second.
The girls team was led by the 4x800 relay team which captured gold in 12:02.72. Payton Tucker was runner-up in the 1,600 (6:03.16) and Skylar Parker second in the discus (100-3). Molly Henry came in third in the 800 (2:52.67).
