Blue Devils' softball picks up trio of victories
Danville beats Northmor, Ashland, Loudonville
Danville's softball team used a six-run fifth inning to dispose of Northmor, 8-3, on April 15.
Morgan Hinkens led the Devils with a home run, single and four RBI. Kaylee Martin added a double and two RBI.
Addy Bocock started on the mound for DHS, fanning nine in six innings. Ruby Bartok finished up, fanning one.
Hinkens’ RBI single in the bottom of the seventh propelled Danville to a 4-3 victory over Ashland on April 17.
On the day, Hinkens had three singles to lead the team. Bocock added two singles while Martin had a double.
Bocock went the distance on the hill, striking out 13.
Danville gave up two big innings in falling, 11-2, to Hillsdale on April 18.
Hinkens and Karleigh Wetzel each smacked a home run to lead Danville. Riley Johnston added two singles.
Bartok worked the first four innings, striking out two. Dalayna Parker finished up, fanning three.
Bocock tossed a two-hitter as Danville beat Loudonville, 10-0, on April 21.
Bocock fanned seven Redbird batters in the five-inning game.
She also had a double and a single to lead the offense. Martin added two singles, while Bartok, Hinkens, Parker, Liz John and Taylor Meade all had one.
Baseball
An 11-run fourth inning helped Danville shoot down Northmor, 16-3, on April 15.
Nolan Ridgway and Reuben Troyer led the Devils with two doubles each. Clayton Vance doubled and singled, while Brycen Burke, Curtis Cline and Nelson Troyer each had two singles. Nelson Troyer also drove in four runners.
Reuben Troyer went the distance on the mound, fanning four.
Ridgway tossed a three-hitter in leading Danville to an 8-0 victory over Loudonville on April 21.
Ridgway fanned 12 on the night.
Burke led the offense with a double and a single. Reuben Troyer added a double, while Briggs Wallace had two singles. Ridgway, Vance, Cy Wallace and Jaden Stull had one hit each.
Track
The Danville girls track team got another strong performance from Kelsey Hackman and finished seventh at the Cowen Invitational on April 18 at Loudonville.
Hackman won three events and finished second in another. She won the 100-meter hurdles (16.55), 100 (12.93) and 300 hurdles (49.85), and was runner-up in the long jump (15-foot-8).
Raegan Malone finished eighth in the 400 (1:08.73) and Saydie Presley was eighth in the discus (90-5).
The Blue Devils’ boys team finished 14th overall.
Aidan Mickley led the Devils by finishing fifth in the 400 (54.66), sixth in the 100 (11.65), sixth in the long jump (18-4.5) and seventh in the 200 (23.77). Owen Gronberg took home sixth in the shot put at 41-10.
