Zoar will celebrate a half-century of hosting antiques and juried artisan works. The 50th annual Zoar Antiques Show and Juried Artisan Showcase will occur Saturday, July 27 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, July 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

More than 60 dealers of premier country, primitive, folk and Americana antiques from across the U.S. will be present offering historic décor and artifacts dating from the late 18th century to the early 20th century. A contingent of dealers specializing in mid-century modern antiques also will return to this year’s show.

Merchandise includes furniture, textiles, art, household items, toys, primitive tools and more.

Considered Ohio’s fastest growing antiques show in terms of attendance, the event drew several thousand visitors in 2023. Jon Elsasser, event chair, said the diversity of historic periods and artifacts represented at the show attracts a broader audience every year.

“We’re seeing new generations of antique collectors, enthusiasts and dealers attending,” he said. “It’s also a great backdrop for individuals and families who aren’t necessarily collectors but want to come experience an authentic early American village when there are many additional activities happening.”

Activities include the following:

—The first opening of the 1817 Bimeler Cabin to the public. The first structure built in Zoar will feature original 19th century furniture handcrafted by original settlers.

—Museum building tours to learn about the Zoar settlers who established America’s most successful communal society, which operated from 1819-98.

—Two new exhibits including the “Scene Around Zoar” art exhibit and a “Best of Zoar” exhibit featuring local artifacts.

—Demonstrations of 19th century techniques for weaving, spinning, blacksmithing and butter churning.

—Horse-drawn wagon rides throughout the village.

—Live performances by local and regional musicians.

—Homemade German food and beer for purchase.

—Local shopping at the Zoar Bakery, Zoar Store and private antique shops.

—A Sunday-only antique car show, co-hosted by the Canton chapter of the Antique Automobile Club of America.

Artisan Showcase Tent

Handmade folk art, furniture and fine crafts are available from juried artisans in the Artisan Showcase Tent. Items available for purchase include furniture, floor cloths, watercolor paintings, stone carvings, and items made from pewter, tin and metal. Several artisan vendors will provide handcrafting demonstrations.

Ticket prices for the Antiques Show and Juried Artisan Showcase are $12 for adults and free for children age 12 and under. Tickets are sold in the form of wristbands that provide access to all tents, events, museum buildings and demonstrations. Wristbands are available for purchase on Saturday and Sunday from one of several outdoor admission booths and from the Zoar Store & Visitors Center.

All event proceeds support ongoing educational programming and architectural restoration efforts in Historic Zoar Village.
