Wooster grad Fransen overcomes injury to make impact at Bowling Green

Christie Fransen made her collegiate soccer debut a little later than expected.
But the wait was well worth it.
After spending the first eight matches of the season on the injured list, the Wooster graduate and current Bowling Green State University freshman made her debut in late September and has worked her way into eight matches.
As for her first career appearance, it was something out of a storybook. Just three minutes into the Falcons’ match with Akron, the 5-foot-7 Fransen played a ball to Emma Stransky, leading to the eventual game-winning goal.
Two matches later Fransen was making her first of a pair of starts on the year and saw 57 minutes off the bench in a win against Eastern Michigan.
Bowling Green finished the Mid-American Conference regular season at 8-1-2 and was the second seed in the MAC Tournament, losing 2-1 to Ohio University on Nov. 2 to finish 10-6-2 overall.

She had four-plus blocks in 10 different matches as a defensive stalwart and earned OAC Player of the Week honors in early September.

Matthew, who was 10th in the American Athletic Conference in the 50-yard freestyle last winter, swam on a second-place 400 free relay in the 2023 opener against Northwestern. The Bearcats will compete in the Big 12 this upcoming season.
