Wooster City Schools receive grant to launch new programs

Wooster City Schools recently announced it has been awarded $2 million through the Ohio Career Technical Education Equipment Grant through the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce. This funding will enable the district to introduce two career-tech programs — health tech and manufacturing and welding technologies — at Wooster High School.

These new programs are being added in response to the high demand observed at the career-tech center and will exclusively serve Wooster students. The grant will cover the construction of specialized classroom spaces at WHS, as well as the necessary equipment to ensure the success of the programs.

Superintendent Gabe Tudor said, “This is a tremendous opportunity for our students to gain valuable skills in fields that are not only in high demand, but also offer rewarding career paths. These programs align perfectly with our strategic plan by ensuring our courses meet the needs of the 21st-century job market and support the infusion of STEAM disciplines.”

The district is committed to creating state-of-the-art facilities to support effective learning and hands-on training for both programs. Students are able to enroll and begin coursework this fall, but the required renovations for classroom space will take some time with construction likely continuing during the first semester.

The addition of the health tech and manufacturing and welding technologies programs underscores Wooster City Schools’ dedication to providing students with education that is both relevant and aligned with current job market trends.
