Woodturners bring best of northeast Ohio to Wayne center for exhibition and competition

The Wayne Center for the Arts, in conjunction with the Northcoast Woodturners and Buckeye Woodworkers & Wood Turners, presents the Woodturning Competition and Exhibit, which opened May 16 and will continue through July 6, in its Roberta Looney and Stanley & Florence Gault Galleries. Over 120 pieces of the woodturners’ work will be presented in addition to a special retrospective of three featured turners.

This is the sixth year that the Wayne Center has brought this event to Wayne County. Almost $1,000 in prizes are awarded to the winners in the categories of bowls, platters, vessels, vases, boxes, sculpture, segmented and spindle pieces. The exhibition is sponsored by Doll Lumber, Hartville Hardware, Mirka Abrasives, Inc., Thompson Lathe Tools and Woodcraft.

The three featured woodturners are Kevin Kirkland, Tom Olechiw and Rick St. Clair. Each brings a wealth of experience to their work and have demonstrated and displayed their work throughout northeast Ohio.

The Wayne Center for the Arts summer hours are: Monday–Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Center is closed on Sunday.

There is no admission fee but donations are accepted.
